Folkways of Pre-Expulsion Acadians in Selected French, British, and American Writers : A Comparative Analysis of Similarities and Differences in Expressed Thought

Description

Historiography of Acadia up to 1755. Analysis of writings on the Acadian people as they were thought to have lived in Atlantic Canada before their 18th-century expulsion. Presentation of pre-expulsion Acadian customs, behaviors, and social life as described by French, British, and American writers. Comparisons of these descriptions, and arguments on the religious and political biases evident in them. An attempt at relating the historical origins of these biases and descriptive trends in order to clarify a presentation of the pre-expulsion Acadian population.
